South Savo

Founded in 1961, the South Savo Regional Fund is one of the Finnish Cultural Foundation’s 17 regional funds, and is devoted to promoting and developing the arts, the sciences, and other fields of endeavour in South Savo – by providing grants and awards, and organising other activities in the region’s 11 municipalities.

What is the South Savo Regional Fund?

The South Savo Regional Fund comprises a General Fund and donor funds based on private and public donations and bequests. A donor can establish a donor fund bearing his or her name.

The Fund’s activities and decision-making are impartial and not linked to political parties or other organisations or associations. Grants made by the Fund are decided by an Administrative Council comprising 9-11 members representing a wide range of expertise and knowledge in the arts, the sciences, society, and business in the region.

Grants from the South Savo Regional Fund

The grants of the regional fund January application round are divided into working and expenditure grants. In addition to these, grants will be awarded for special purposes.

What kinds of grants do we award and to whom?

When deciding on grants, priority is given to applicants from South Savo, scientific and artistic work carried out in or focused on the region, and cultural projects of regional significance.

In addition to the general fund, grants are awarded from the following donor funds, among others:

  • Aili and Leo Davidsson Fund, which primarily supports medical research and, secondarily, linguistics.
  • William, Bertta, and Erkki Lylys Fund, which promotes research in agriculture and forestry, as well as cancer and cardiovascular disease.
  • Irma and Matti Toivakka Fund, which promotes medical research and intellectual culture in South Savo.
