The SÍM Residency seeks to foster an environment of reflection, research, experimentation, and artistic development by providing artists with a supportive working and living environment. The residency encourages creative exchange and offers participants opportunities to engage with both local and international artists through a dynamic programme of events and activities.
For artists undertaking production-based projects, access can be arranged to a variety of professional workshops and facilities, including textile, ceramics, printmaking, sculpture, dance studios, darkroom facilities, and sound recording studios.
The residency welcomes visual artists working across all disciplines, including multidisciplinary and cross-disciplinary practices. Curators, writers, researchers, and other arts professionals are also encouraged to apply for research–based projects.
The SÍM Residency building at Seljavegur 32 is centrally located in Reykjavík and within walking distance of the city’s major cultural institutions, galleries, museums, and artist-run spaces.
Residents are provided with a private live-work studio of approximately 62 m², including a kitchenette. The facilities also include shared bathrooms, showers, laundry facilities, communal workshop spaces, and meeting rooms.
Please note that while the residency apartments are located on the ground floor, access to parts of the residency facilities on the second and third floors is available only via staircases. As a result, the building has limited accessibility for individuals with certain mobility requirements. For more information regarding accessibility, please contact the SÍM residency team.
