The content of the residency programme is tailored individually for each residency artist. The artist’s work is supported by a local mentor-curator selected by FABRIKKEN.
In addition, 5-6 portfolio review meetings are arranged for the artist. These meetings offer the artist an opportunity to discuss their artistic practice with Danish art professionals such as curators, gallerists, and critics. The residency requires that the artist prepare in advance by ensuring that their portfolio and/or websites are up to date, and by preparing to present their work. The aim of the meetings is to support the artist in navigating the international art market. These meetings are coordinated by the Finnish Cultural Institute in Denmark.
Fonden FABRIKKEN for Kunst og Design in Copenhagen is a natural meeting place for visual artists and designers. It brings together representatives of different artistic fields at various stages of their careers, from emerging to established professionals. In addition to workspaces, FABRIKKEN also works as a hub for professional peer support.
FABRIKKEN is located in Amager, a southern district of Copenhagen, approximately 2.5 kilometres from the city centre. The building complex is industrial; the art centre previously housed a large laundry facility. FABRIKKEN primarily hosts early‑ and mid‑career professional artists who are interested in developing and challenging their skills in a peer environment. Between 70-80 professional Copenhagen-based artists and designers work at the centre.
Artists are provided with private studios that are accessible around the clock. In addition, a shared 1,000 m² production and event space is available, as well as basic workshop equipment for artistic work (general wood‑working machines, welding tools, ceramic kiln, spray‑painting booth, printing press).
When considering applying for the residency programme, please note that accommodation during the residency takes place in the private home of a Copenhagen‑based artist or curator chosen by FABRIKKEN. This means that kitchen and bathroom facilities are shared.
The residency programme is realised in collaboration with the Finnish Cultural Institute in Denmark.
