General information about grants
How are applications evaluated? What guidelines and recommendations do we have for grant recipients? This page provides general information about grants.
Application Evaluation
The Finnish Cultural Foundation defends the open pursuit of science and art. Grant applications are peer-evaluated in expert committees of science and art. Applications are evaluated on the basis of the applicants’ abilities and the quality of the projects, and the selections also reflect the views of annually rotated experts on prominent trends in the fields.
The strategic focus areas of the Cultural Foundation are “All of Finland,” “The best of the future,” and “Strong science and art.” Most of the strategic focus areas and initiatives are advanced through the Foundation’s own cultural projects, but the Cultural Foundation’s board may also select grantees for projects related to the strategy.
Guidelines and recommendations
The Cultural Foundation is committed to the Finnish National Board on Research Integrity TENK’s guidelines for Research Integrity and Procedures for Handling Alleged Violations of Research Integrity.
The Cultural Foundation recommends that you read the ethical guidelines for research involving the Sámi people in Finland here.
The ethical guidelines for the art and culture sector may be found here.
The Cultural Foundation encourages exploring the research and arts funding database maintained by the Ministry of Education and Culture through the websites tiedejatutkimus.fi and taidejakulttuuri.fi.
