Hôtel Chevillon is located in the village of Grez-sur-Loing about 70 kilometres south of Paris and about nine kilometres from the town of Fontainebleau. The village has a population of about 1,300 and it was already attracting artists, writers, composers and musicians at the end of the 19th century.

The working grants for Hôtel Chevillon are available as follows:
hree grants for a stay of four months in the period February–May, June–September and October  – January  (visual artists).

The grants amount to €2,000 a month, and each grantee also receives €500 to cover travel costs.

Hôtel Chevillon has a total of seven apartments, six studios and one study. Family members may not accompany the resident artist for the residency.

Hôtel Chevillon is owned by Stiftelsen Grez-sur-Loing, a Swedish foundation, which has rented out working space in the building to other foundations (such as the Finnish Cultural Foundation) since 1994. Until 2018 the study rooms were offered also to writers. In year 2019 grants are still given to visual artists but after that the contract comes to an end.
